Spread the Joy

I just finished erasing a blog post draft that I was very passionate about. Why? Because I lost the passion when I realized how negative that blog post was and I had a thought come to my mind; why should I be spreading negativity? What's the point? Is it going to make anyone feel better or change anyone for the better? No, the only reason I was writing it was to complain and mope around.

Sometimes I feel like the human race is prone to negativity. This is just a general statement. We tend to think about ourselves a lot and forget about other people's thoughts and feelings. We even forget that other people even have thoughts or feelings sometimes. We are so egocentric that it's almost as if we have never learned what compassion, kindness, and service is. We just don't care. Or we think that everyone is a "hater" and they are out to get us. Just because someone is wearing a frown doesn't mean they are frowning at you when you make eye contact with each them. When someone says something unkind, don't take it so personally. Now I'm not trying to excuse that person, but wouldn't life be so much better if we responded with positivity?

Positivity is comparable to light and negativity to the dark. Light invades the darkness. When you turn a light on in a dark room, the room is illuminated. The light pervades the room. If you are in a dark room and someone turns the light on in another room, light comes through the gaps around the frame of the door. Light is more powerful than the darkness. So if we apply basic math, positivity is stronger than negativity. The only time negativity can defeat positivity, is when your light bulb is dim, or your flashlight is low on battery.

I'm just saying that with all the horrible things happening in the world, we should be trying to make other's life's better. And then hopefully they will do the same. It's called good karma. So the next time a classmate or a store clerk gives you a snarky attitude, don't bite back. Respond with kindness. It will make both of your days better instead of leaving you with a bitter feeling. Charge your positivity. Charge your light.

The Real Good Guys

What are with all the anti police people? Do you know who they are? Do you know what they do? They risk their lives for YOU everyday they are called on duty. They are not meant to be scary although their face might be mushed up like that. That's just their work face. And sometimes their work face gets stuck for a long time, but that doesn't matter. They are not evil city workers ticketing people with tickets. Yes, if you speed they will often give you a ticket. Why, because speeding is against the law. They can't just turn a blind eye. They have to look out for everyone's safety. That includes preventing possible risks and accidents. Yes you might be a good driver, but don't blame the cop for doing their job. You only have yourself to blame.

Why do we get so mad for getting pulled over when we know we did something wrong? Why do we expect the police officer to give us a break when we aren't giving them a break? It is a universal principle that when you break a rule, a consequence follows. We learn this lesson as children.

Why do we care so much?

It seems to me that in life we think that all the bad things don't happen to us and that they never will. We excuse rules with the impression that they don't apply to us because we will never be in that circumstance or because we know better or even because we are experienced enough to avoid those circumstances.

It also seems to me that in this day and age, we expect privileges. Or maybe it's because we are frustrated that we got caught. Maybe it's because we were in a hurry so just this once is okay. Maybe it's all that and more. Maybe we are frustrated at the inconvenience of being pulled over or because we didn't notice how fast we were going and want to be cut a break?

We can often justify our actions. And sometimes it seems very reasonable. But can you ever justify putting someone else's life at risk?

I know that it's tempting to say that the people who get into car crashes are just unlucky. But the reality is, accidents happen all of the time. They might be caused by unlucky situations or they might be caused by accidents and or consequences of people not driving responsibly.

So do the world a favor and respect the work that the police officers do to keep you safe.
