The Real Good Guys

What are with all the anti police people? Do you know who they are? Do you know what they do? They risk their lives for YOU everyday they are called on duty. They are not meant to be scary although their face might be mushed up like that. That's just their work face. And sometimes their work face gets stuck for a long time, but that doesn't matter. They are not evil city workers ticketing people with tickets. Yes, if you speed they will often give you a ticket. Why, because speeding is against the law. They can't just turn a blind eye. They have to look out for everyone's safety. That includes preventing possible risks and accidents. Yes you might be a good driver, but don't blame the cop for doing their job. You only have yourself to blame.

Why do we get so mad for getting pulled over when we know we did something wrong? Why do we expect the police officer to give us a break when we aren't giving them a break? It is a universal principle that when you break a rule, a consequence follows. We learn this lesson as children.

Why do we care so much?

It seems to me that in life we think that all the bad things don't happen to us and that they never will. We excuse rules with the impression that they don't apply to us because we will never be in that circumstance or because we know better or even because we are experienced enough to avoid those circumstances.

It also seems to me that in this day and age, we expect privileges. Or maybe it's because we are frustrated that we got caught. Maybe it's because we were in a hurry so just this once is okay. Maybe it's all that and more. Maybe we are frustrated at the inconvenience of being pulled over or because we didn't notice how fast we were going and want to be cut a break?

We can often justify our actions. And sometimes it seems very reasonable. But can you ever justify putting someone else's life at risk?

I know that it's tempting to say that the people who get into car crashes are just unlucky. But the reality is, accidents happen all of the time. They might be caused by unlucky situations or they might be caused by accidents and or consequences of people not driving responsibly.

So do the world a favor and respect the work that the police officers do to keep you safe.

  1. First of all, thank you for writing this blog! It really upsets me when I see others bash police officers, my first reaction is, “Well I am sorry that my dad risked twenty-three years of his life to make sure that your life and other lives were safe!” Many forget that police officers are human and while there may be corrupt officers out there, there are more fair and just officers out there. I think that many in our generation feel a sense of entitlement and feel that they can always weasel their way out the consequences that they are faced with. But what about me the consequences that they can’t escape. Like in car accidents, with a consequence resulting in injury or death. I really enjoyed this blog because I can relate to your frustrations. Again, thank you for writing this! :)

  2. This story really changed my way of thinking. I never hear of people talking about what good cops have done for us. I just hear of what they did wrong, even it was the right thing to do.When I hear those insults, I have to decide myself if it’s the truth or if it’s just part of an angry rant.

I, myself, admit to blaming things on cops when I speed or if I don’t have my license. After reading this, I feel bad for allowing myself to do that.

Especially at this time in life, there are so many news stories about cops and a citizen and we are so quick to accuse the cop. Yes there are bad cops, but like you said, most are just trying to do their job and keep everyone safe.

Thanks for finally giving me a chance to read something other than a “bad” cop story.

  3. I think your blog is a hidden truth. Because in my eyes I see people looking at cops as people who are full of hatred but they are really the selfless and bravest people in the world.

It is good for civilians to see the cops as good people most of the time rather than the opposite, which is very uncommon nowadays. It is also import to see police officers as human beings who have families and feelings. Your blog is capable to open other peoples’ eyes who think negative of police officers.

They are the people who protect us and help in our times in need and should be respected by everyone. In my life I have met many reasonable police officers who have cut myself and mom a break and I appreciate that. By encountering those moments and remembering the fear of seeing the flashing lights behind me, I learned to not be placed in that circumstance again.

  4. I absolutely loved this! Many people who get themselves into such situations take it too lightly. They rely on blame instead of acceptance. Media has played a big part on how we view officers in today's world. Officers are here for security and protection. They aren't the bad guys. They're good guys protecting us from the bad in the world. Police officers jobs are like any other and they work to make a living and protect not only one person, but they protect many people. Thanks for sharing this! Many people understand this but don't state it.
